Overview of HMIS in Lesotho and at Emmanuel HC Clinic
Availability of high-quality routine data is critical for regular targeted program planning, monitoring effectiveness of interventions, and measure progress towards targets. In February 2015, with support from the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and technical assistance (TA) from ICAP at Columbia University, in addition to support from other strategic information (SI) stakeholders, the Lesotho Ministry of Health (MOH) has worked to transform the country’s Health Management Information System (HMIS) from almost an entirely paper based and fragmented system into an integrated web-based HMIS through phased implementation of DHIS2 (https://www.dhis2.org/). Until May 2017, Emmanuel HC was writing out reports on paper tools to send to the District Health Management Team for entering the data into DHIS2.
