JOB TITLE : Medical Officer
RELATIONS : Reports to the Medical Superintendent
JOB SUMMARY : Under the supervision of Medical Superintendent, the Medical Officer will be responsible for the clinical operations, serve as advisor on disease control and health issues, provide an effective treatment plan, discover gaps in treatment plans and investigate potential inconsistencies during patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and care for patients in his/her or department
- Review patient clinical management initiated by Senior House Officer and Interns.
- Assess chronic, medical/surgical patients and maternity clients in Out-patient department, prescribe treatment and decide on suitability for admission.
- Arrange for appropriate investigation to be carried out.
- Review inpatients on a daily basis.
- Undertake student nurse teaching during ward rounds and surgical procedures in theatre.
- Provide technical advice, guide and support to other health workers on technical, and policy issues.
- Organize in service training for junior Doctors, Nurses, Nursing Assistants and other health workers.
- Coordinate patient/client management with other health workers and relatives or communities as appropriate
- Liaise with senior Doctors in management of patients and referrals
- Prepare reports for submission to the relevant authorities as needed.
- Conduct priority operations research.
JOB SPECIFICATION
MB. ChB/MD/MBBS/Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery
3 years working experience as a Medical Doctor
Registration with the Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council with up to date subscription.
ADDED ADVANTAGES
Possess post graduate training especially in obstetrics and gynecology
Further training and experience in HIV/AIDS management is desirable
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to assess patients’needs and interpret diagnosis tests to provide treatment
Dedication to patients safety and quality of healthcare
